About

Based in Florida’s Treasure Coast, Victor Josephs Tropical Fish produces ornamental fish for wholesalers and pet stores.
With more than 50 years of experience in breeding tropical fish, our family farm is ground zero for a variety of corydoras and angelfish.

For the Love of Fish

We believe that fish do best when they’re in a comfortable, natural environment and we make efforts to keep the fish as stress-free and happy as possible.

The Family Farm

History

Our story begins with a tragedy that took place in 1964.

During a joyride in Kingston Jamaica, 18 year old Desmond Josephs fell victim to a fatal car accident. Unable to part with some of her eldest child’s possessions, Desmond’s mother passed on the responsibility of caring for her deceased child’s fish tank to her youngest child, Victor – then 7 years old.

This responsibility took root in Victor’s life and sprouted into an incredible interest in fish. Throughout his childhood and into early adulthood, Victor continued to learn more about ornamental fish and began breeding them in adolescence.

During Jamaica’s political unrest in the late 1970’s, 21 year-old Victor emigrated to the United States with his young bride, Judith-Anne. To make ends meet, Victor bred and sold a modest quantity of fish at flea markets – whatever his mother’s 25 square foot porch would allow him to produce. It was at one such flea market where a stranger introduced him to a man that would put his knowledge to the test and pave the way for his future success in the fish business.

A local fish farmer was operating his family’s tropical fish business when he was introduced to Victor Josephs in 1980. The two worked side-by-side at the farm for years before the owner retired – leaving Victor to operate the business for him.

In the early 2000’s, the 11 acre farm was one of many properties bought out by a local developer. Still at the peak of his career, Victor took this opportunity to continue the only business he knew – and formed his own company.

The business was then moved to Port St. Lucie, Florida in 2005 where it is currently operated by the Josephs family.
